Google Play has added Venmo as a payment option, giving users another way to pay for apps, games, in-app purchases, subscriptions and other eligible digital content through the Play Store.
Google said users can link a Venmo account to Google Play and then choose it during checkout. Payments can draw from a Venmo balance or from eligible bank accounts, credit cards and debit cards already linked to the Venmo account.
The addition expands Google Play’s payment choices alongside established options such as debit and credit cards, PayPal and Cash App. Because Venmo primarily operates in the United States, the practical impact is focused on U.S. users.
Venmo Can Now Be Linked Directly to Google Play
Google announced the new payment option on August 10, 2026. Once a Venmo account is connected to Google Play, it can be selected for eligible purchases across the store rather than requiring users to move their Venmo balance to another account first.
The supported uses include apps, games, in-app purchases and subscriptions. Google also said Venmo can be used for payments such as supporting creators in eligible content-based apps, depending on the purchase and billing flow.
Venmo Joins PayPal and Cash App at Google Play Checkout
Venmo joins other alternative payment methods already available through Google Play. PayPal has been supported by Google Play for years, while Cash App was added more recently, giving users several ways to pay without entering a conventional card directly for every purchase.

Venmo is owned by PayPal, but the two services maintain separate consumer experiences. Adding Venmo directly to Google Play therefore makes the Venmo wallet itself available at checkout instead of requiring a user to route a payment through PayPal.
The Change Comes as Google Play’s Billing Environment Evolves
The new Venmo option arrives as Google Play’s billing environment is changing more broadly. In some markets and circumstances, developers can offer alternative billing systems or direct users to other purchasing options. Those external payment systems are separate from Google Play checkout and may not support Venmo, so availability can depend on how a particular app or subscription handles payment.
